Catedral de Nossa Senhora da Glória
The Cathedral of Our Lady of Glory is one of the most important landmarks of the Vale do Café, situated at the top of a hill in Valença. The temple impresses with its elevated position, accessible by cement and stonework staircases, and is recognized as a historical heritage site protected by the State Institute of Cultural Heritage. Its trajectory began in 1803, with the foundation of the Village of Our Lady of Glory by order of Vice Roy Dom Fernando José de Portugal. Initially, the Coroados Indians used a simple chapel made of wood, vines, and straw, but in 1820, the construction of the main church in stone and lime began. The current towers, rebuilt in 1917, replaced previous structures that had been demolished due to deterioration. The interior preserves neoclassical lines, while the facade reflects the eclectic style. A curious detail is the French clock in one of the towers, donated by the merchant Manoel José Vieira.
